Liverpool Complete Signing of Jérémy Jacquet

Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of highly rated French defender Jérémy Jacquet from Ligue 1 side Rennes, completing one of the club’s most significant defensive additions ahead of the 2026/27 season. The 20-year-old centre-back arrives at Anfield on a long-term contract after Liverpool agreed the transfer earlier in the year, with the move becoming official following the opening of the summer transfer window.

The Reds secured Jacquet’s signature after beating competition from several top European clubs, underlining the club’s determination to invest in young players capable of becoming long-term pillars of the first team. Liverpool had reached an agreement with Rennes during the winter transfer window, allowing the defender to remain in France for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign before making the move to Merseyside this summer.

Jacquet arrives with an impressive reputation despite his young age. A product of Rennes’ renowned youth academy, he steadily progressed through the club’s development system before establishing himself in the senior squad. During his time in Ligue 1, he demonstrated maturity beyond his years, earning praise for his composure in possession, strong tackling ability and intelligence in defensive situations.

The Frenchman also gained valuable first-team experience during a loan spell with Clermont Foot before returning to Rennes to become a regular starter. Across his senior career, he has accumulated more than 30 first-team appearances while representing France at Under-21 level, highlighting his status as one of the country’s brightest defensive prospects.

Liverpool view Jacquet as an important investment for both the present and the future. Standing out for his aerial dominance, reading of the game and confidence on the ball, he possesses many of the qualities required to succeed in the Premier League. His ability to play progressive passes from the back and remain calm under pressure makes him well suited to Liverpool’s style of football.

Speaking after completing the move, Jacquet expressed his delight at joining one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

“I feel really good. The first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here,” he said. “For me it’s a big dream. A club like Liverpool, it’s a big dream for me.”

His enthusiasm has already been warmly received by Liverpool supporters, who are eager to see the young defender begin his journey at Anfield. Many fans have followed his development in France and believe he has the potential to become one of the Premier League’s leading centre-backs over the coming years.

The signing also reflects Liverpool’s continued strategy of identifying elite young talent before they reach their peak. Rather than focusing solely on experienced stars, the club has consistently invested in players with high ceilings who can develop within the team’s structure. Jacquet perfectly fits that recruitment profile.

Although the defender missed part of last season because of a shoulder injury, Liverpool’s medical staff are confident he has recovered fully and will be available for pre-season training. The club expects him to compete immediately for a place in the first-team squad while continuing his development under the coaching staff.

Competition for places in Liverpool’s defence is expected to be intense, but Jacquet’s arrival provides valuable depth and long-term security at the heart of the back line. His combination of physical strength, technical quality and tactical awareness gives the coaching staff another reliable option as the Reds prepare for another demanding campaign across domestic and European competitions.

For Rennes, the transfer represents another major success in developing and selling elite young talent. The French club has earned a reputation for producing players capable of competing at the highest level, and Jacquet now joins a growing list of academy graduates to secure a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool supporters will now look forward to seeing the France Under-21 international in action during pre-season. While adapting to the intensity and physical demands of English football will present new challenges, there is widespread belief that Jacquet possesses both the talent and mentality required to thrive at Anfield.

As Liverpool continue strengthening their squad for the future, the signing of Jérémy Jacquet could prove to be one of the club’s smartest pieces of business this summer. If he continues the development shown during his rise through French football, the Reds may have secured one of Europe’s finest young defenders for years to come.
